Recent Power of Attorney Legislation

Although a Power of Attorney is a common legal document, it is likely to be the most powerful legal document a person will ever sign.

On July 2, 2014, Governor Corbett signed Act 95 into law making various changes to the current Power of Attorney law, some of which are effective immediately and some becoming effective January 1, 2015.

These changes impact a great variety of issues, including but not limited to the number of witnesses required, duties and limitations of the agent, ability to make gifts and third party liability, just to name a few.

Our office would respectfully suggest all power of attorneys be reviewed and possibly updated to ensure they comport with the new law and, more importantly, with your individual and family needs.
